the summer garden

Hello friends!!
There is so much goodness in the garden now and I love to spend as much time there as possible planting, weeding, harvesting... especially cutting flowers to bring inside.  These black-eyed susans and queen anne's lace  are from our meadow, in a wicker pitcher I happened to find at the thrift store...

The glads and sunflowers bloom at the same time in the cutting garden, so this combination has become an annual tradition...

A daylily variety I added this summer and that I hope will multiply and completely fill in under this tree...

It was an unusually cool month of July for us, with one morning down to 48 degrees.  Plenty of rain has everything lush and green as if it were spring...

The garden harvest has included strawberries, tomatoes, basil, dill, cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, summer squash, lettuce, radishes, peppers and carrots.  Last week I made a batch of refrigerator pickles, and I have frozen up bags of strawberries, shredded zucchini, green beans, and carrots for the cold winter months...

The limelight hydrangeas are beginning to bloom and soon those bouquets will fill the rooms.  Below are a few of the oakleaf hydrangea flowers from the plant I bought at Monticello...

After working in the garden, you might find me on the back porch glider, looking out at the garden, with some iced tea in hand...

Hope your summer has been good, I would love to hear what you have been up to!

Thank you Mary! I'm slowing adding to my blue and white pieces as I see them at yard sales.

Love your photos, your flowers are so lovely. I've always wanted to have a small vegetable garden, but have found "small" does not equate with vegetable gardening. Lol it was great to hear from you, it's been awhile. Mary Lea

Mary Lea, it's always a pleasure to hear from you! So true about gardening...my husband just built me some more raised beds, I tend to take on more than I can handle :)

What beautiful flowers! I have mostly shade, so cutting flowers are few. I’d love room for sunflowers! So nice to see this post. I’m super jealous of the wicker pitcher. Great find!

Thank you Karen! I enjoyed reading about your Plein Air Workshop, sounds wonderful! I would love to paint landscapes, but my attempts are really bad, lol.

Your posts are always so good, and I look forward to everyone. We have a lot of black-eyed Susans in our garden; will have to find some Queens Anne's Lace to make a bouquet. I've scored some great baskets at Goodwill, but haven't seen anything as cute as your pitcher basket.

Lovely set of blue and white vases that you have been collecting, as well as the baskets. It all looks so nice!
We are finally semi settled in to our new living arrangements with our son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons. Adjustments are being made. :) The weather here in Ohio has been wonderful: a few hot days, but then the humidity level goes down immediately. Plenty of parks and bicycle trails to explore close by. Evenings sitting in the back yard, or playing Ladder ball with our grandsons, wonderful!
So nice to hear from you.

Thank you Melissa, as always it is great to hear from you! I am happy you are getting settled in your new home...for me, moving is stressful. Wishing you a lovely, relaxing summer!

So happy to see a post from you! Did you make your porch trellis? That is such a good idea for privacy!

Thank you Angela! We actually found two old matching trellises at an antique shop. They needed some work, but after refurbishing them, they are working great on both our front and back porches.
